Hi, I'm Adelaide: Films, Theatre, and Learning to Love Life Again

Adelaide, your friendly American blogger.

First blog jitters! Allow me to introduce myself.

Classic, I know.

Hi. I'm Adelaide. 27, Charleston, artsy-fartsy, Christian gal. I have no idea what I'm doing, but I do have passions, and we can always go from there.

My goal? To love life again. I am not expecting this blogging thing to change my life. Because, if we are going to be truthful, there is only one who can do that (shoutout to my bro, Jesus). But I do hope that by intentionally writing out my journey, I might find some freedom in loving life the way I should. We shall see.

So, where is my diary going to take us? Travels. Lifestyle in film. Theatre. All of them will have a splash of my life and my inner dialogue mixed in, because boy, there's a lot in there. Like right... now.

*cue sparkle transition*

If I could wave a magic wand and paint my "perfect" life, I would live in a vibrant maritime town. A room overlooking the water and the mountains, the early boat horns slowly pulling me out of sleep. A pot of coffee freshly brewed, filling the house with a warm nutty roast. I would take care of my cats, go to my local gym for a workout, meet my kindred spirits for brunch, walk to the farmers market for groceries, and come home to watch movies, blog, and live.

Live. Hm.

A maritime coastline with fields of green and cool winds.
My most favorite place to be - stay tuned.

I'm sure you're wondering where on earth this very specific vision is coming from. Well, I will share that with you another time.

But good news, my travels will be a thread of my diaries. Hopefully detailed enough that you can live vicariously through the writing.

Which leads me to my next topic: lifestyle in films. What on earth does that mean?

Well, I do a ton of maladaptive daydreaming. And a lot of that is inspired by film. Now, I can't be a superhero, but I can add a little of what my friend (my kindred spirit, Kayleigh-ann) likes to call "whimsy."

In this thread I will watch movies, find inspiration, figure out what I like, and apply it to my life. Starting with You've Got Mail, one of my favorites.

My aunt and I were watching it one evening, and I said, "It would be incredible to see a series of someone watching these movies and then applying the little cute things from them to their life."

So, here we are. This will probably be my primary area of blogging, and I am so excited! Bring me the tunes, optimism, and intentional activities!

The next thread will be all theatre. You'll learn this about me quickly: I love theatre. I love the craft. I love the heart that goes into it, the BTS that goes on behind it.

I love a first read-through, when nobody knows what the show is yet and everyone is a little too polite. I love the week where the choreography finally clicks and you can see it land on their faces. I love watching a kid who could barely make eye contact at auditions walk downstage and own a solo. I love the notes sessions, the paint fumes, the costume racks, the one prop that goes missing every single night. Well, maybe not that part.

I love the part nobody buys a ticket for. The spreadsheets. The parent emails at 11pm. The conversations with cast members about their character. The biblical connections between art and God's incredible work. That's the actual job.

So expect rehearsal stories. Expect me processing out loud about directing, about leading a team, about what I'd do differently. Expect me to overshare about a curtain speech I rewrote six times.

I'm hoping there's an audience out there that resonates, or can offer some wisdom. A film recommendation. An activity that brings whimsy to their life. A home overlooking the ocean they don't want anymore. Joking. Kinda. Not really. Maybe?

I would love a community that's growing, yearning, and craving more to life: in God, in moments, and in people.

Until next time! ♥
